Dr. Joseph Dello Russo, who practices in Long Island, New York is helping to pioneer new technology in the field of lasik vision correction. Dr. Dello Russo is working with a new laser that offers advancement in eye tracking technology. The new laser tracks eye movement. The eye moves constantly, even without us knowing it.
The new laser is called LADARvision, also known as autonomous laser. This machine was only recently approved by the FDA.
A small, very precise laser beam is used to shape the cornea, while the new laser system tracks every movement of the eye. This revolutionary laser has the ability to track movements that can't be seen by a human. By tracking the eye precisely the laser is able to make more uniform overlaping beams. This leaves the surface of the cornea smooth, a smooth surface helps aid in reducing side effects. Less side equates to quicker recovery.
With the LADARvision laser the amount of tissue removed is often less than half the width of a human hair.
