Title
Keeping Children Safe

Each year thousands of children go missing. Kidnapping is no longer the sole province of strangers. It can be committed by acquaintances, partners or even by parents tangled in unpleasant custody disputes. The numbers of children kidnapped are quite alarming. According to the FBI’s National Crime Information Center (NCIC): • 85-90% of the approximate 875,000 persons reported missing in the year 2000 were persons under the age of 18 • From 1982 to 2000, the number of people reported missing has jumped from 154,341 to 876,213. That’s an increase of 468% There are no quick fixes to this problem and certainly there is no guaranteed method to guard your precious child 100%, but there are tools available to help you as a parent keep a closer watch out on your children. A child proximity alarm is a very simple device that will notify you when your child has exceeded a distance of 25 feet from you. The child carries a small receiver (it fits inside the palm of an adult and is extremely thin) in a pocket or someplace innocuous and the parent has the controller. An audible alarm would sound that would give you an immediate warning something is amiss. If the child is old enough, a small personal alarm, roughly the size of a car remote control, could be invaluable. Personal alarms work by emitting a loud, siren-like noise when activated. They are small and easily concealed. The alarm will "shock" the assailant and give you an audible warning something is wrong! In addition, the assailant will know you will not stand by and let your child be a passive victim and may help discourage any further action against you and your family. Personal alarms are only one tool available to parents. Although there are no quick fixes to the problem of child safety, there are many things that we can do as adults to address and positively impact the issue. By: BFTroll
